21.10.20 - Investing in Talent
Finding a job at the best of times is challenging enough, however, at a time of so much uncertainty, it is more important than ever to seek out the careers advice that you need. And this is never truer than for those with a disability or health condition who have questions and concerns unique to their situation; concerns such as should I disclose my disability; how do I request the support I require during the recruitment process; and how will I manage my disability with my colleagues.
Investing in Talent is a unique careers event which enables students to find answers to these concerns, and others, as well as find out about career opportunities in banking and how to access these.
For the first time since its launch in 2011, Investing in Talent 2020 was run as a virtual event and took place on the 21st October 2020. Participating firms included Barclays, Blackrock, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley and UBS.

Following a welcome from Alex Van Holk, Executive Director, Investment Banking Division at Morgan Stanley, the afternoon flowed from session to session, with each providing further insights into a career in investment banking, the importance of disability to the firms, and the support they provide both during the recruitment process and in the workplace itself.
Sessions included:
*An overview of investment banking
*Meet the banks; an opportunity find out more about each bank and their opportunities
*An interview skills workshop delivered by a graduate recruitment manager from one of the banks
*A session on disclosing your disability during the recruitment process and requesting support
*A disability panel with representatives from each of the firms all of whom had a disability or health condition
*Virtual networking
By the end of the event, a whopping 95% of delegates said that they either felt confident or very confident about achieving a career in banking; this is up from 50% saying they didn’t feel at all confident at the start of the event.
In addition, 87% scored the event very good or excellent; with the remainder scoring it as good.
Investing in Talent is a ‘must attend’ event for any student with a disability or health condition interested in a career in commercial law. The aim is to run Investing in Talent as a face-to-face event in 2021.

It was an excellent event, I took a lot from it, and would recommend any student with a disability or health condition to attend. I learnt how to ask for my reasonable adjustments, as well as tips on how to perform in the interview and other Investment Banking employability tips. Thank you very much for having organised this event!
